Asda has made a big change to nearly 1,000 of its UK supermarket sites across the country.

The supermarket chain has announced that it will be launching the Too Good to Go scheme across its superstore and Asda Express sites. The new rollout lets shoppers get a "surprise bag" of food worth over £9 for just £3.30. The discount comes as the bag contains a range of grocery products that are approaching their sell-by or use-by dates.

The goal of the scheme is to reduce food wastage and the majority of major UK supermarkets now have a partnership with the Too Good To Go. Shoppers can get the surprise bags through the Too Good To Go app and it's important to know that you won't know what you are getting in your surprise bag when you order.

This is because they are made up of things from that particular day. However, items available include things such as prepared fruit or salads, chilled items, ready meals, food to go, bakery products, or produce with use-by dates such as diary, meat, fish or poultry.

Asda also confirmed that Too Good To Go will also be available at food service sites such as LEON, Greggs, Sbarro and Subway located in Asda stores. The supermarket chain says the price of these surprise bags will vary depending on the contents but could include things such as breakfast items, lunch, and dinner food, cakes, and pastries. The food value of the surpise bag ranges from £12 to almost £20.

Fans of LEON can also take advantage of a new offer which gives them over £10.50 worth of surplus LEON treats such as cakes and pastries for £3.50. Sam Dickson, Asda Vice President for Commercial Strategy, Operations & Own Brand, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Too Good To Go to more sites across the UK. Reducing food waste is a priority for us, and through innovative solutions like Too Good To Go, we hope to continue the progress we’ve made to date in minimising waste and supporting customers, communities and charities”.

To collect a Too Good To Go bag, customers can search for a nearby Asda supermarket or Asda Express store in the Too Good To Go app. Users can then select when they wish to pick up their bag and collect it.
