A smart plug can revolutionise your home's power system, propelling you into the future with remote operation, smart home assistants and complete control over your electronics. However, some of the top-tier brands can be a tad pricey. Nevertheless, there are fantastic, affordable alternatives available - including one of the best currently on sale.

Amazon is offering a brilliant four-pack of the Tapo Smart Plug Wi-Fi Outlet for just £22.99, down from £39.99, a whopping 43% discount. You can even apply a 6% voucher at checkout for additional savings. If you're looking to spend less, a two-pack of the plugs is now priced at £15.99 (reduced from £19.99).

These plugs easily connect to your Wi-Fi network, allowing you to control whatever device they're connected to directly from your phone - be it a phone charger, fan or light. This can be incredibly beneficial for reducing energy bills by monitoring energy outgoings, establishing lighting routines or simply switching your appliances on and off as needed.

They're straightforward to use - just insert them into your existing plugs. They're also slim enough not to be obtrusive, reports the Express. For added connectivity, they're compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Home for a truly integrated experience.

Money-saving expert Martin Lewis is also a fan of these types of plugs in general, with his MoneySavingExpert website featuring smart plugs in its energy-saving tips checklist last year.

This Amazon plug has been a massive hit, as evident by its outstanding 4.7-star rating on Amazon from nearly 29,000 user reviews. One chuffed customer gushed: "I purchased this to be used in an outbuilding. I was concerned about the distance from my router, however it has connected and works perfectly. With the app, it makes it very easy to use. Highly recommend and I will be buying more."

Another pleased buyer shared: "These plugs are well made and easy to install. For something that is used daily, multiple times, it has zero issues."

Meanwhile, a third happy user added: "These were simple to set up and were done within 15 mins. They connect well with Alexa and are easy to set up. Was a 4 pack as well which was value for money. Would highly recommend them."

However, not everyone's experience has been glowing. A disgruntled customer reported: "These worked brilliantly until we changed to full-fibre. Although the plugs still work with their scheduled pattern I now can't connect to change them! " Another user complained: "To install it, it takes a bit of tinkering around two apps and a router restart. Fiddly at the best of times."

For those considering alternative smart plugs, there's a raft of options available. You might fancy the Drayton Wiser 10A Smart Plug, but at £43.49 per unit from Screwfix, it comes with a heftier price tag. Similarly, Hive offers a top-rated three-pack of Active 13A Smart Plugs, though at £84.96, they surely make a dear shopping cart at Screwfix.
