A man has shared the unusual method he’s adopted to save some extra cash - but it’s left some scratching their heads.

Saving some much-needed money while the cost of living crisis continues is a concern for many people across the UK. Times are definitely harder and lots of people are feeling the pinch thanks to skyrocketing food prices, bills and more. Popular social media account Fesshole, on X - formerly Twitter - has built an army of more than one million dedicated followers after providing a platform for people to anonymously share their deepest confessions to be - sometimes harshly - judged by strangers.

The revelations are eclectic, ranging from crafty money-making plots to more innocent stories about naïve beliefs once held during childhood. Often, it’s an entertaining medley of comedic or shocking anecdotes but one recent post has left some followers baffled.

The anonymous poster revealed: “I'm always looking for ways to save money these days. When I boil an egg, as long as the egg hasn't split, I use the boiling water to make a cup of tea. Straight from the pan to my cup.”

The post garnered almost 300K views and hundreds of replies from people keen to share their thoughts. One person quipped: “I bet you use your hotdog water for your bath”.

Another joked: “Nostalgia is a mind’s trick but I still think fondly of the time before I read this stupid fess,” while a third commented on the effectiveness of the apparent 'hack': “After boiling the eggs ..the smell of water is like a different...I can't make a cup of tea”.

Another, agreeing with the general consensus that it was a “bizarre” way to save a little bit of money, penned: “Yeah that's bizarre, maybe use it in cooking like if you're making soup or something but [tea] is the last thing I would ever put that water in.”

One Fesshole fan deadpanned: “Why aren’t more people doing this?” While another called for a more logical approach: “It's f***ing minging, and NONE of us is that hard up that we can't make a cuppa? Like, why would you not do it the other way round, boil the kettle, make the tea, put the rest of the water in with the egg, cook it. Same thing without egg water?”

And another shared a personal anecdote of their own experience with egg water: “I did that the first time I camped out overnight in our back garden aged 12. Made my dad a cup of tea with the boiled egg water. Spat it straight out”.

And one fan simply added: “Surely pouring the tea then boiling the egg makes more sense.”
