Lapland is a winter wonderland, where visitors can enjoy snow-covered forests, husky and reindeer rides and ice hotels. Often dubbed as the 'home of Christmas', Lapland spreads out across northern Finland and only takes around three-and-a-half hours to get to from London. Lapland's snowy countryside offer the perfect place for winter sports such as snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, and more.

Rovaniemi city has international shops, restaurants and a bustling nightlife. Lapland's traditional villages are also a treat, including Saariselka — a good location for spotting the Northern Lights. Considered the 'official' home of Santa Claus, Rovaniemi is also a major tourist destination, especially during Christmas. Visitors can meet Santa, explore his workshop, and visit the Arctic Circle.

Rovaniemi attracts a significant number of tourists each year, especially during the winter season. On average, the city welcomes around 500,000 visitors annually. This number has steadily been increasing as more travellers favour it as a winter destination, especially for Christmas enthusiasts.

The bulk of visitors come during the Christmas season, between November and January, when the Santa Claus Village, Northern Lights tours, and winter activities are at their peak. Tourists from the UK, other parts of Europe, and even Asia (especially from countries like Japan and China) contribute to the high volume of visitors.

Flights will go from either Liverpool Airport or Stansted Airport, and cost from £24.99. Ryanair’s Winter 2024 Lapland-Rovaniemi flights are available to book now at ryanair.com.
