Winter Fuel Payment: The £8 buy that keeps my kids warm all night without the central heating

by · Manchester Evening News

Autumn might have only just arrived, but the colder nights are definitely here leaving many reaching for the central heating.

But with energy costs rising from this month, most people are wanting to avoid using it as much as possible.

Thankfully there are all kinds of products available to help keep you warm.

After adding thermal curtains to each bedroom, I decided to make things even cosier with some fleecy teddy bedding - and it's worked wonders.

A single duvet cover and pillow case set costs just £8 from the Online Home Shop and has stopped my daughter from waking up cold in the night.

Made from super soft touch fleece material, it's a really cosy set and comes in five different colours, with a different colour on the reverse.

The choices are charcoal and white, blush pink and grey, latte and cream, charcoal and grey, and navy and grey. Or you can get a Brentfords Teddy Fleece Duvet Cover Set in the one colour for £10, choosing from 17 different shades including duck egg, blush, forest green, cream and black.

A matching teddy fleece fitted sheet costs £5.50 and makes it even warmer, and these also come in a wide range of colours.

But it's not the only set that can bring some warmth to the room for the chilly months.

If you don't fancy the teddy bedding, there's a 100% brushed cotton Dreamscene thermal flannelette bedding set, which still gives you that supersoft comfort, but isn't as thick as the fleecy material.

We found it gave us the perfect temperature and was warm enough even without the central heating being on.

The tartan check patterned design comes in either red and grey, or charcoal and grey and costs from £13 a set.

Shoppers have praised the products online, with reviews including: "Lovely soft material and excellent value" and "Such good value and extremely high quality. This is the second one I've purchased."

It's not the first product we've tried from OHS which is helping to cut down the heating bill.

Its electric blankets like this one work a treat and the heated hoodies are brilliant for keeping warm and cost just pennies to run from a small powerbank that fits in the pocket.

Tedding bedding is available from a range of retailers, including Amazon, where you can get this John Aird Teddy Fleece Duvet Cover Quilt Bedding Set for £14.99, and Dunelm, where a Teddy Bedding Bundle costs £8.
