It's well worth checking to see if you can claim the cash

easyJet, Ryanair, TUI and Jet2 customers could be owed £350

People who have travelled with Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and other airlines are being urged to make an important check, as they could be owed hundreds of pounds each. Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert has issued an alert after receiving feedback from travellers.

In a post on X, MSE said: "Over two-thirds of MoneySavers told us they were delayed on their last flight, the majority for more than three hours. If you were as well, here's how you can claim up to £520 (per passenger!) in compensation..."

An article linked within the update goes on to explain that flights regulated by UK or EU rules - so any flight leaving a UK/EU airport and/or any UK or EU airline arriving at a UK/EU airport - are subject to certain laws. Part of this means you could be owed a payout if you arrived at your destination more than three hours later than scheduled, the flight was scheduled to fly in the past six years (five in Scotland), and the reason for the delay was the airline's fault.

The amount you are owed depends on how far away your destination was. The prices are set at £220 per person for up to 1,500km and £350 per person for 1,500-3,500km, for a delay of three hours or more.

If your destination was more than 3,500km away, it's £260 per person for a delay of 3-4 hours, jumping up to £520 per person if you were delayed by more than four hours. The most popular routes for UK travellers on Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 tend to fall in the 1,500-3,500km range, so the £350 per person mark.

MSE guidance adds: "Crucially, it's about when you arrive, not when you leave. You'll start being eligible for compensation if your flight arrives three hours (or more) later than scheduled. So if you're on a flight that takes off four hours late but lands two hours 55 minutes late, you won't be eligible."
