McDonald's to launch new breakfast product fans will love

by · Manchester Evening News

A beloved breakfast item on the UK McDonald's menu is set to face competition from a new product due to launch in the coming weeks. This marks another change in the fast food giant's offering of iconic burgers, sandwiches, salty fries and McCafe drinks and desserts.

McDonald's is globally recognised for its breakfast menu, so much so that it recently extended its serving hours to 11am. Now, fans of its signature hash browns will soon be able to get more for their money with the introduction of a mini version of the savoury snacks.

The bite-size hash browns, which will be available across the 1,300 plus McDonald's restaurants and drive-thrus in the UK, will compete with the full-sized versions that have been a staple since the 1980s. Hash browns were launched in the US in the 1970s before joining UK McDonald's breakfast menus in the early 1980s, quickly becoming a morning favourite.

From October 16, customers will be able to purchase a five-pack of the mini hash browns for £1.49. Devotees of the McDonald's hash browns can indulge in a 15-piece share box for a bargain £2.99.

Considering a single, regular-size hash brown costs £1.19, this is an attractive price point, although prices may vary across individual restaurants. However, there's no guarantee how long the mini hash browns will be available, so McDonald's enthusiasts may need to act quickly, reports the Express.

In 2022, the masterminds behind the iconic Big Mac introduced mini potato waffles to their breakfast line-up. The newcomers were immediately a hit amongst patrons, some of whom claimed they surpassed hash browns in taste; however, their stay on the menu was brief.

Known for their "crispy on the outside" texture, standard hash browns comprise a mix of potatoes, dehydrated potato, and non-hydrogenated vegetable oils, among other components, with the mini versions expected to mirror this formula in snackable sizes. The new potato creation will slide alongside perennial favourites like the famous McMuffins and Cheesy Bacon Flatbreads.

While McDonald's routinely refreshes its regular menu post-11am approximately every six weeks, changes to the breakfast selection are notably rarer. A notable recent update came in January when the Breakfast Wrap made its comeback following a four-year absence.

Preceding this was the beloved McMuffin, which made its initial appearance in November 2022. After a period of absence, the McMuffin triumphantly returned in March of the previous year and has been available ever since.
