Manchester Airport issues fresh alert for passenger ahead of major change

Manchester Airport has issued a fresh alert for passengers travelling in the coming weeks as several airlines move from Terminals 1 and 3 to the new-look Terminal 2. The airport has urged travellers to make any amendments to lounge and parking bookings so that they don’t get caught out when they go on holiday.

So far a total of 11 airlines which are moving have been announced, starting on October 27 until November 13. The changes come as the airport undergoes a £1.3billion transformation resulting in a complete overhaul of Terminal 2.

As part of the plans, Terminal 1 will close while the number of airlines operating from Terminal 3. The aim is to make the new-look Terminal 2 “the heartbeat of the airport”.

The first half of the new Terminal 2 opened in 2021, while the second half is on track to open next year. With the transformation set to be completed in 2025, the airport has announced a number of airlines which are already moving over. These are:

  • Austrian on Sunday October 27
  • Lufthansa and Lufthansa City on Sunday October 27
  • Swiss on Sunday October 27
  • TAP Air Portugal on Wednesday October 30
  • Biman Bangladesh on Tuesday November 5
  • Jet2 on Wednesday November 6
  • Iberia Express on Thursday November 7
  • Vueling on Thursday November 7
  • Egyptair on Tuesday November 12
  • SunExpress on Tuesday November 12
  • Royal Jordanian on Wednesday November 13

The airport has urged passengers with lounge or car park bookings to amend them if necessary. Travellers are urged to make car parking amendments via this form here, and lounge amendments via this form here.

Last month the airport announced a total of 22 new retail, bar and restaurant units will open in Terminal 2 next summer when the transformation is complete, including the airport’s first Wetherspoons, a Greggs and a Fever-Tree cocktail and champagne bar.

The new terminal will be home to luxury retailers like Pandora and Chanel, the latter opening its first standalone airport make-up and skincare boutique. These will be joined by big highstreet names including LEGO, WH Smith and Boots. There will also be a huge 472-seater food hall, the Great Northern Market, which will offer a street-style dining experience with seven international street food kitchens including a unit from viral Manchester dessert brand Gooey.
