Tesco shoppers get 'blast from the past' as they discover retro item in store
by Miranda Pell · Manchester Evening NewsA sweet treat that seemingly disappeared decades ago has been spotted in supermarkets, and shoppers are buzzing.
Recently there has been an increase in the sightings of old-school favourites reappearing on shop shelves, such as the return of the Cadbury Fuse last month.
Tesco shoppers have spotted the retro Tunis Cake - an alternative to Christmas cake that features Madeira sponge with a thick layer of chocolate on top. It is decorated with vanilla frosting and brightly coloured marzipan fruit.

Someone shared a picture of the nostalgic dessert on Facebook and wrote: “So retro! Tunis cake, Tesco £10”. People have flocked to the comments to revel in the nostalgia. Comments included “That’s a blast from the past”, and “happy memories”.
It was clearly a Christmas tradition for many families as comments include: “We had one every Christmas when I was a kid”, and “remember having these as a kid at Christmas”, and “We always had these at Christmas as children!”
Someone joked about the price and commented: “So retro, it never came with that price back then”, while another person remarked on the size saying “they’ve got so much smaller”.

Some people have claimed they’d spotted versions of Tunis Cakes being sold in M&S and Sainsbury’s recently. One is currently available from M&S at Ocado online. Similarly to the Tesco one, it costs £10 and is described as ‘an iced sponge cake with marzipan fruits’.
Food can really be nostalgic as it reminds us of happier times. Someone said seeing the cake: “Reminds me of happy times and special people”, while another person wrote “happy memories”.
