IMD Sounds Rain Alert In Andhra, Karnataka; Heavy Showers Also Likely In Northeast. Check Forecast

IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in southern and northeastern India on Sunday.

Parts of southern and northeastern India are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Sunday with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert. 

As per the weather department, heavy rainfall may occur over Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka, and Rayalseema.

Parts of central Maharashtra are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds while thunderstorm and lightning are expected over West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Konkan & Goa, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Interior Karnataka.

In the north, thunderstorms, lightning and squalls are predicted in East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh for Sunday and Monday while skies are expected to remain clear in other regions for the rest of the next week.

On Monday, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Karnataka, and south interior Karnataka. 

Northeast India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to receive fairly widespread widespread light to moderate rainfall during the coming week and for the next two days in West Bengal and Sikkim. 

Isolated heavy rainfall is also very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya during the next seven days, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on October 8 and 9. 

Heavy rain is wreaking havoc in Meghalaya killing at least 10 people, including seven of a family, in rain-induced flashfloods in South Garo Hills district in the past 24 hours. 

The incessant rainfall has triggered landslides in the Gasuapara region of the district, they said on Saturday.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma held a review meeting on the situation across the five districts of Garo Hills.
