North Lanarkshire Council has reviewed the fees and charges some businesses in the area are required to pay.

The council’s environmental health team currently charges for functions it performs with regard to businesses who sell food, exporters and premises offering tattoos or piercings.

Additionally, new fees will be introduced for certificates of compliance which street traders need to be allowed to operate and must renew every three years.

The changes mean that street trader food licenses will now cost £137, while food hygiene certificates will cost up to £197. Export certificates will increase from £63.11 to up to £97 depending on whether the business requests a physical copy, an electronic version or both.

Tattoo and skin piercing licenses will carry various costs depending on the type and size of the business, with the most expensive being £364 for an initial application where the operator works alone, employs others or rents space to self-employed workers.

The new charges were unanimously approved by the council’s environment and climate change committee at a recent meeting.
