Walkers announces return of beloved 90s flavour – and crisp fans are excited

The crisp giant has been known to chop and change its flavours, but one much-loved snack that was hugely popular in the 1990s has returned – and fans can't wait to taste it again

Walkers Crisps, the snack giant born in Leicester in the 1940s, has a history of mixing up its flavour offerings.

While steadfast favourites like Ready Salted, Salt and Vinegar, and Cheese and Onion have remained over the decades, other flavours have come and gone with the likes of Worcester Sauce and Beef and Onion being consigned to the snack archives.

Now, a nostalgic flavour that captured hearts after its debut in the 1990s made a triumphant comeback, much to the delight of crisp fans eager for a taste of the past. A Reddit user sparked a flurry of excitement by posting a picture of the returning flavour's multipack on the CasualUK subreddit.

"The OG Barbecue Walkers are back and they taste exactly the same!" celebrated the original poster, as fans rejoiced at their return in their traditional packets. The flavour had previously been phased out before being replaced by Marmite and later Barbecue Ribs as Walkers' black-packet treat.

Reddit was soon abuzz with reactions: "No way!" one user commented. "These were my favourite as a kid. I have fond memories of school discos and getting to choose a bag of crisps and I always went for barbecue. I shall be sniffing these out next time I'm near a supermarket!"

Another chimed in: "I will have to hunt these down, been using Lays barbecue as a substitute but it doesn't hit right." A third shared their surprise: "Wow! Was not expecting that, I will have to try this out again for sure. I'm happy to see that they taste the same."

While a satisfied customer who recently purchased them declared: "Finding these was incredibly exciting. I have had at least 15 crisp sandwiches since they returned." The original poster also confirmed the flavour is available in 'Grab Bags'.

Stephanie Herbert, Marketing Senior Brand Manager from Walkers, announced the return of Smokin' BBQ, saying: "For years Walkers fans have been calling out for a barbecue flavour to join our core range.

"We've heard those calls loud and clear so we can't wait for crisp lovers nationwide to try out the brand-new Walkers Smokin' barbecue Sauce flavour! Walkers Smokin' barbecue Sauce crisps feature a smoky barbecue sauce flavour, which will give fans 'a brand-new taste sensation'."
