In the midst of the cost of living crisis, Brits are finding ways to cut back on costs, particularly their grocery bills. With a focus on reducing food waste, it's no surprise that people are taking drastic measures to economise in every way possible.

Tesco has come forward with some advice for customers who purchase rice, especially those who often find themselves with an excess after cooking. The retail giant has shared a tip on how to avoid wastage and make your food last longer.

According to the guidance on Tesco's website: "What can you freeze besides butter? Cooked rice. If you've cooked too much rice to go alongside your dinner, don't throw the rest out."

The site advises to "Freeze as soon as possible after cooking. Pack into an airtight container (portioning into servings if you've got lots) and freeze, ready for fried rice at a later date. Reheat until piping hot when ready to use.", reports the Express.

Rice isn't the only thing you can save from the bin by using your freezer, according to Tesco. A freezer works best when it's full, so it's wise to utilise all the space to prevent food waste and keep ingredients on hand.

From dairy products like milk and cheese to vegetables and rice, your freezer is more versatile than you might think, capable of storing a wide array of items beyond just ice cubes and frozen peas.
