New Broad Marsh park praised as 'big improvement' for Nottingham
by Jasmine Thomas-Alie · NottinghamshireLiveNottingham residents say the recently opened Green Heart represents a big change for the city as those enjoying the park praise it as “very colourful”. The Broad Marsh regeneration project, which was funded by a £161 million package from the Transforming Cities Fund, has helped to create an open park and garden space.
Local residents passing by the city have expressed their excitement over the newest development, which opened in early September. Charlie Reid, 19, from the Meadows, said: “It is a big improvement from what it was before.
"It makes a change to having just the benches down the street. It is a nice open space and a good way to meet people."
The gardened area is the latest element of the regeneration project, coming after the opening of the Central Library last November. The adaptions feature several footpaths for the public to walk through and a variety of benches.
Located next to Nottingham Central Library and just a short walk away from Nottingham’s train station on Carrington Street, pedestrians are able to take a wander. Sheila Squires, 65, said: "It is quite nice because you can sit and wait for the train here.
"I used to pass through here with my dog Marley and he did not like the area, now he loves it." The Green Heart is home to over 30 newly planted trees and a new pond space.
Another Nottingham resident reflected on the history of the Broad Marsh area and its development over recent years. Paul Haywood, 65, from Hucknall, said: "This is my first time seeing it and there is a lot of history here. It is always nice to see greenery and it is looking very colourful."
