'End of an era' as Nottingham takeaway closes after 40 years
by Rucsandra Moldoveanu · NottinghamshireLiveA Chinese takeaway and fish and chips shop in a Nottingham suburb has announced its closure after 40 years of trading. Tung Kong, located at 40 Valley Road in Carlton Valley, was closed today (Saturday, November 2).
In a message shared on the Mapperley People Facebook page, its owners said: "To all our wonderful customers: we have some news to share with you. Firstly we'd like to express our sincerest gratitude for your years of support.
"However as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and after almost 40 years of business we have decided that it is simply time to move on.
"Once again thank you to everyone - you made this business what it is today and it's been a genuine pleasure serving you. Vince, Julie and all the staff."
Regular customers were quick to react to the post and express their well-wishes in the comments. One user, Elaine Pearce, said: "Good luck Vince and family, end of an era! Wishing you a happy retirement."
Adrienne Rowntree added: "Good luck Vince and Julie. We drove past last night but the queue was out of the door, as expected. Take care, we will miss you so much."
Debbie Wilson, another Facebook user, said: "All the best for the future Vince and family, will miss your smiling face that hasn't changed in all the years I've known you!"
The takeaway is rated 4.5/5 stars on Google. One review written by Malcolm Pearce reads: "Have been using this takeaway over 40 years and can say food and staff are excellent, [we] spend on average £100 every 2 weeks. Would highly recommend this."
Another review written by Jason Carlin reads: "I've been using this shop since I was a boy with my parents. Now I use it with my kids and they love the food too and whilst the shop has had some uplifts the food has been the one constant you can count on. Great food, great prices, great staff."
