Amazon has slashed the price of its Fire TV Stick to its lowest ever in an early Prime Day deal. The Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote is now down to £16.99, a £28 discount and more than half price from the usual £44.99.

This the cheapest it’s ever been, according to price tracker camelcamelcamel. The deals come as Amazon is gearing up for its next site-wide sales event, Prime Big Deal Days, which will see prices slashed on thousands of items exclusively for Prime members on October 8-9.

The Fire TV Stick can transform a standard, ‘non-smart’ TV into a smart TV, providing access to countless films and shows on the biggest streaming apps like Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix, BBC iPlayer and YouTube, as well as music and games. This latest model supports up to Full HD 1080p streaming with immersive Dolby Atmos sound and is ‘50 percent more powerful’ than the previous version.

Amazon’s flagship streaming device is easy to set up, simply plug in to the TVs HDMI port, turn on the TV and connect to the internet to get set up. The compact gadget can also be moved between TVs, making it ideal for homes with several TVs or taking travelling.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick has racked up almost 90,000 five-star reviews, with more than 5,000 shoppers snapping one up in the past month. Shoppers have said the device is a ‘game-changer’ that’s ‘easy to set up’ and delivers ‘excellent’ picture quality.

One buyer said: “The Amazon Fire TV Stick is an amazing device that has transformed my TV experience. It’s incredibly easy to set up and gives me access to a vast selection of streaming services and apps. The Alexa Voice Remote is a game-changer – just press a button and ask Alexa to find your favourite shows or control the TV. The interface is smooth and the picture quality is excellent. This device is a must-have for anyone looking to upgrade their TV’s smart capabilities. Highly recommended.”

'The Fire TV Stick has transformed my TV experience'

Another said: “Absolutely delighted. It was installed in no time and up and running with no messing around. Amazon have made it really easy to sign in to apps with an existing subscription. I love love love it. Solved the problem of streaming when the lightning cable to iPad had caused issues for months. The unit itself fits into the HDMI port with a good stable fit. The remote is tidy and easy to use. Wonderful, five stars plus.”

A third happy shopper said: “Bang on. Really easy to set up. I was up and running in an hour and that was with loading my apps. Saved me buying a smart TV and upcycled my old but still working older non-smart TV. Using it for the bedroom and no complaints, the new remote is definitely an improvement on the earlier one.”

However, despite awarding the Fire TV Stick four stars, one review says: “It is easy to install, you get a multitude of channels. The only downside is that it suffers buffering but not excessive.”

Shoppers should also note the Fire TV Stick doesn’t support 4K streaming. For the best picture quality, Amazon offers the Fire TV Stick 4K for £39.99, down from £59.99

Alternatively, Currys offers the Roku Streaming Stick 4K for £49.99, while the Google Chromecast HD with Google TV is available for £37.99. Both items also come with up to three months of Apple Music at no extra cost.
