FCT, Abuja - The national electricity grid collapsed leading to a nationwide blackout on Monday, October 14.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) disclosed that the national grid collapsed at 6:58pm.

This was disclosed in a statement issued via AEDC X handle (formerly known as Twitter)@aedcelectricity on Monday, October 14.

This is the sixth time that the national grid will collapse in 2024. the collapse affected power supply to various distribution companies in the country.

The DisCo company assured Nigerians that it is working with relevant stakeholders to stablise the national grid and restore power to the people.

“Dear Valued Customer, Please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 pm today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas.
“Rest assured, we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilised. Thank you for your understanding.”

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) which serves some parts of Lagos State made the same announcement via its X handle.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) announced a general system collapse via its X handle @enugudisco

The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company made a similar announcement with a promise to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

FG finds solution to persistent national grid collapses

Legit.ng earlier reported that the federal government of Nigeria kicked off plans to build a new infrastructure known as a super grid.

The initiative is part of the government's attempt to put an end to the country's incessant national grid collapses.

The minister of Power noted that the existing condition of the grid is insufficient for the future goals of the power sector.
