More Asda customers will now be able to buy bags of groceries worth almost £10 for just £3.30.

The retailer has expanded its partnership with surplus food app Too Good To Go. It means shoppers can get "surprise bags" from nearly 1,000 sites including supermarkets, Asda Express and food service stations.

Too Good To Go was first founded in 2015 in Denmark to deal with the amount of food being wasted at buffet restaurants. Launched as an app in 2016, it now operates in 18 countries across Europe and America, and is said to boast 95 million registered users.

Included in these bags will be a variety of random food products that are nearing their use-by date. This can include everyday staples such as fruits, salads, chilled items, meat, dairy products and even bakery goods, reports the Daily Record.

Bags sold at the larger supermarket stores are said to be worth over £9, but will cost just £3.30. The bags will also be sold at Asda's smaller stores and in food service stores such as Leon, Greggs and Sbarro, but the prices are said to vary.

Asda first teamed up with the Denmark-founded firm back in 2021 in a bid to tackle food waste. The partnership, which was formed through the grocer's former EG Group convenience sites, is said to have saved over two million kilograms of perfectly good food from going to waste.

Sam Dickson, Asda vice president for commercial strategy, operations and own brand, said: "We’re delighted to be bringing Too Good To Go to more sites across the UK. Reducing food waste is a priority for us, and through innovative solutions like Too Good To Go, we hope to continue the progress we’ve made to date in minimising waste and supporting customers, communities and charities".

Sophie Trueman, country director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland, adds: "We’re so pleased to be extending our partnership with Asda, helping to combat food waste and provide great value to customers. At Too Good To Go we believe that saving food from going to waste is a win-win-win - businesses can recover the sunk cost of would-be wasted food, consumers can get good food for less, and with one simple action, we’re collectively doing something great for the planet by stopping that food from ending up in landfill."
