Two major banking apps go down

by · Mail Online

Two major banking apps have gone down leaving millions of customers unable to access their accounts.

Internet banking is unavailable on the NatWest and The Royal Bank of Scotland apps with error screens popping up when customers try to log in.

Downdector data shows a combined total of over 4,500 customers have logged their banking app being down.

The error message appearing for both banks, who are both part of the NatWest Group, is the same and reads: 'We're sorry, some kind of error has occurred when trying to establish a connection between your device and ourselves.'

The service pages for both banks cite service disruptions on their mobile apps and digital banking and their social media help teams blame it on 'connection issues'.

The message reads: 'Our mobile app and Digital Banking are currently unavailable. We're sorry for any issues caused and we’re working hard getting everything back up and running for you. We will share an update when we have more information.

'Customer support wait times may be longer than usual. Thank you for your patience'

The service page's point out that their websites are working normally.

Frustrated customers have taken to social media to ask the banks why the apps are down with one reply from the RBS Help team saying: 'We're aware of the issue and our technical teams are looking into this.'

One anxious customer wrote: '@RBS_Help why is your mobile banking app down and no one can say why? Urgently needing access to my funds-what is happening??'

In a reply, the RBS help team said: 'We are aware online banking and mobile app are experiencing connection issues. We are currently looking into this to get it resolved. Please try again later. Thanks so much for your patience. We're sorry for any inconvenience.'

One angry person wrote: 'Smashin… full morning away to sh*t thanks to the RBS app/online banking deciding to die'.
