I bought a mystery bag from Toby Carvery...these are the pros and cons

A woman has revealed the impressive haul she took home after buying a £3.50 mystery bag from Toby Carvery.

The mystery bag phenomenon has proved a big hit with Brits on TikTok, allowing punters to bag some bargain treats, if they are willing to take the risk.

Katie Collier was thrilled when she dished up her meal from Toby Carvery with a mountain of meat inside.

She said: 'I was really impressed with the amount of food I got and I thought the pot of gravy was a nice touch.'

Journalist Katie Collier penned their review of a mystery bag from popular pub chain Toby Carvery, which cost them just £3.50

Katie, writing in the Worcester News, added: 'I love gravy so a bit more would’ve been even better but I was just pleased they’d provided it in the first place.

'My box had plenty of meat in it and lots of vegetables - it was a really generous portion.'

The trend of the mystery food bag has been helped by cheap dishes on Too Good To Go, an app that allows people to claim food for a discounted price to stop it going to waste.

Katie added that she was disappointed not to see the addition of an item that is the staple for many roast dinners - the much-loved Yorkshire pudding.

Despite being asked to wait an additional 15 minutes to collect her food, Katie was surprised to receive the hearty offering of a full meat carvery along with a pot of gravy

She also said that the carrots provided 'were a bit on the hard side for my liking and the roast potatoes were a bit chewy but apart from that, it was an enjoyable meal.'

While she gave her mystery box a largely positive review, she noted one particular downside being the lack of an option for customers to choose how much of each vegetable can be included.

But Katie did warn of a downside, her food, picked up between 8.45pm-9pm, was 15 minutes late.

She explained that if you are considering to get a mystery box via Too Good To Go, it is worth thinking about how far you live from the spot you wish to pick it up.

She said: 'Since I live a decent way from the restaurant, the food was warm enough to eat but I could’ve warmed it a bit.

'Overall, I’d recommend the Toby Carvery Too Good To Go box because it provides a full meal and is a cheaper option for those wanting to eat restaurant-standard food.'
