Charlotte Kristensen's sober October sips

by · Mail Online

With thousands of Brits gearing up for sober October, I’m sharing some of my latest no- and low-alcohol discoveries, which don’t compromise on flavour. I’m often asked to suggest 0% ABV options for spontaneous get-togethers or parties, and can certainly do better than tap water or juice for non-drinkers! Here, then, is my effervescent, enticing line-up, from zero-proof wine and tea to cider and a zingy soft drink.

¡Hola! Barcelona Alcohol-Free Sparkling NV (0%), £6.99, laithwaites.co.uk.

Here’s a de-alcoholised Spanish sparkling wine oozing bright notes of peaches and grapefruit. It is balanced by a touch of sweetness for agreeable easy drinking.

Waitrose Low Alcohol Cider (<1%, 500ml), £1.30, Waitrose.

Bursting with honeysuckle, ripe apple and a hint of nuttiness, this crisp low-alcohol cider is best enjoyed chilled. Perfect with pub classics, like Scotch eggs and pork pie.

Fortnum’s Sparkling Tea, (0%), £19.95, fortnumand mason.com.

A sophisticated luxury pick from a beloved British institution, this is tea-like yet fresh and floral; ideal for a baby shower or as an apéritif to quench your thirst.

Fever-Tree Sparkling Mexican Lime (4 x 250ml), £4, Sainsbury’s.

Mixing zesty lime with fragrant yuzu, this refreshing soft drink works a treat served over heaps of ice. It also makes a vibrant pairing with sushi or light salads.
