Calgary is the latest major Canadian city to see average rents decline from record peaks — and large additions to its stock of new purpose-built rentals could mean the steepest increases are likely behind the city, one expert says.

Average rents for apartments and condos in Calgary tumbled two per cent in September, according to Rentals.ca, the second-straight month the city has seen its average rent decline. August’s one-per-cent decline was the first time since February 2021 rents in Calgary had declined.
