Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool for rest of career but admits new contract ‘does not depend on me’
by Connor Andrews · talkSPORTMohamed Salah has said he wants to spend the rest of his career at Liverpool, but current contract negotiations don’t depend on him.
Salah has been in breathtaking form for Liverpool this season, leading to increasing claims that he is currently the best player in the world.
The Egyptian forward has broken record after record since moving to Anfield from Roma for £36.9million, most recently becoming the club’s record Champions League scorer.
The 29-year-old’s current contract with the club expires in 2023, and talks are ongoing over a new deal, but Salah has now revealed the situation is out of his hands.
“This does not depend [on] me,” Salah said.
“But if you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football [career].
“But I can’t say much about that, [it’s] not in my hands.”
Salah’s current contract at Liverpool runs out in 2023, but the club will be extremely cautious about letting any key player enter the final year of their deal, with the potential of losing them for nothing.
But the No.11 has undoubtedly earned an improved contract, as he continues setting the standard in the Premier League.
However, the club and Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa are said to be far apart on terms, with the Egyptian King’s representative asking for as much as £500,000 per week at Anfield.
“Depends on what the club wants, [doesn’t] depend on me,” Salah said.
“At the moment I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool, that would make me sad.
“It’s so hard, I don’t want to talk about it but it would make me really sad.
“At the moment I don’t see myself playing against Liverpool, but let’s see what will happen in the future.”
Salah now has 137 goals in 214 games for Liverpool despite not playing as a conventional striker, and he still holds the record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season with 32.
