Amit Shah meets kin of J&K policeman shot dead by militants, promises govt job to his wife

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with the family of Jammu and Kashmir Police inspector Parvaiz Ahmad Dar, who was shot dead by terrorists in June.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, met with the family of police inspector, who was shot dead by terrorists in June.

Parvaiz Ahmad Dar was shot at by two terrorists and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Dar was shot at while he was going to offer prayers in Srinagar's Menganwaji Nowgam area.

The police officer is survived by his wife, a 13-year-old daughter, and a 10-year-old son.

Amit Shah met the family members of Parvez Dar and assured that the entire country is with them, adding that the nation will always remember the supreme sacrifice being made by Dar and other Jammu and Kashmir Police officials.

The Union home minister also promised a government job to Parvez Dar's wife.

Amit Shah’s first visit to J&K since abrogation of Article 370

This is Amit Shah's first visit to the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.

The Union home minister landed in the valley on Saturday and was received at the Srinagar airport by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while other senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir administration were also present.

Amit Shah is scheduled to chair a high-level security review meeting later in the day.

He will also inaugurate the first international flight between Srinagar and Sharjah in the UAE via video conferencing. The announcement regarding the launch of the direct Srinagar-Sharjah flight had been made by Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during his trip to Kashmir last month.

Massive security arrangements have been put in place in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of home minister Amit Shah’s visit. Drones, snipers and additional companies of CRPF and BSF have been called to Srinagar.

Bunkers manned by CRPF forces have come up in several areas of the city as well in other parts of the Kashmir valley.
