T20 World Cup 2021: He’s One Of Australia’s Greatest Players – Aaron Finch Gives His Backing To David Warner Ahead Of Super 12 Match vs South Africa

Ahead of Australia‘s T20 World Cup opening game versus South Africa, Aaron Finch has given his full backing to opening partner David Warner, who is going through a slump in form.

Australia and South Africa clash in the first game of the Super 12 on Saturday afternoon in Abu Dhabi.

Warner has been in poor form – his last two knocks in the UAE leg of the IPL were 0 and 2, while in the two warm-up matches he registered 0 and 1.

Aaron Finch, though, is going by his own “judgement” about the left-hander, who he hailed as one of Australia’s “greatest” cricketers. The Aussie skipper is confident that a ruthless, dominating Warner will be back on Saturday.

“I’m backing Davey’s ability, I’m backing his judgement. If you look at these World Cup history, it’s bloody good,” Aaron Finch said.

“Would he have liked more runs? Absolutely, everyone would like more runs all the time. He’s one of the greatest players Australia has ever produced and I’ve got no doubts that come game one, he’ll be up and firing, ready to go.”

Observing the matches in the second leg of IPL 2021, Aaron Finch asserted that putting runs in the powerplay will be significant for any team as the pitches in the UAE becomes difficult for batting as the game progresses.

He reckoned that the toss becomes crucial, especially during night matches.

“Even though it’s different surfaces to what the IPL used, we saw the impact that had. The teams that won the powerplay went a long way to winning the game as the wickets deteriorated.

“As the conditions cool down slightly in the coming month or so, it will probably become heavier and heavier. Then the toss does become really important. The way out is making the first six overs count. Regardless of how dewy it does get, if you can control that part of the game, it goes a huge distance in winning the match,” the Australian skipper added.

Australia defeated New Zealand in their first warm-up match before losing to India in their second warm-up fixture. After South Africa, Australia will meet Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh, and West Indies.
