Convicted Killer Robert Durst Charged With Murdering His Wife
by Jemima McEvoy · ForbesTopline
Robert Durst, the notorious real estate heir found guilty of murdering his best friend just last month, has now been charged in a newly filed criminal complaint with second-degree murder in the 1982 disappearance of his wife, according to multiple reports on Friday.
Key Facts
A New York State Police investigator who has been probing the case for more than 20 years filed a criminal complaint with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, the office confirmed to multiple outlets including The New York Times.
The second-degree murder charge linked to the disappearance of Kathleen McCormack Durst precedes a formal murder charge, which a prosecutor now has to decide whether to pursue.
A copy of the criminal complaint posted online alleges the grounds for the charge come from the evidence already gathered on the case and contained in the files of the Westchester County District Attorney, the New York State Police and the District Attorney’s Office of Los Angeles.
The charge is also the result of “conversations with numerous witnesses and observations of the defendant’s recorded interviews and court testimony in related proceedings,” according to the one-page complaint.
The complaint alleges the incident took place “on or about” January 31, 1982, the day Kathleen Durst was last seen alive.
