Alphabet-owned driverless vehicle unit Waymo just closed a $5.6 billion funding round to expand its robotaxi service across the U.S.

Its biggest round boosts Alphabet’s previous plan to invest up to $5 billion in the autonomous driving company that’s preparing to launch its ride service in new cities.
