While the term of the Maharashtra assembly ends on November 26, that of Jharkhand ends on January 5 next year.

The assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand will closely follow the recently concluded assembly polls in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Election Commission will announce the schedule for Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand today. Besides the polls to the two assemblies, the poll panel can also announce bypolls for three Lok Sabha seats and 12 Assembly seats of UP and Gujarat.

With the schedule to be announced by the ECI, the model code of conduct will also come into effect.
