The Supreme Court has ruled that government job recruitment rules cannot be changed midway unless specified in the existing procedure.

The bench said that extant rules having statutory force are binding on the recruiting bodies both in terms of procedure and eligibility.

The Supreme Court ruled that recruitment rules cannot be altered mid-process unless expressly permitted by law. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud emphasised consistency in eligibility criteria, ensuring fairness and adherence to Article 14 of the Constitution.
