Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the caste census is the first process to be taken up to assess the extent and nature of discrimination.

Caste discrimination in India is "unique" -- probably among worst in world -- and the Congress will demolish the "artificial barrier" of 50 per cent reservations, the party's senior leader Rahul Gandhi said today.

After conducting a caste census in Karnataka, another Congress is going to conduct a similar exercise in Telangana. The caste census will start in the state on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi reiterated Congress' stand that it will conduct the exercise nationwide if voted to power.
