The fatalities were reported just a day after Israel launched a ground incursion into southern Lebanon, intensifying the conflict on its northern front.

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Hezbollah fighters engaged in clashes with Israeli soldiers who advanced into two border towns in southern Lebanon, killing eight Israeli soldiers and wounding five others, Hezbollah and Israeli Army reported Wednesday.

The Israeli Army named its first casualty: Captain Eitan Itzhak Oster, 22, who was killed in Lebanon after clashes with Hezbollah fighters. Hezbollah said its fighters were engaging Israeli forces inside Lebanon on Wednesday, a day after Israel was attacked by Iran in a massive missile barrage.
