The arrest of the suspects created tension at the polling unit and caused a disruption of the voting process.

Mr Akpata spoke to journalists after casting his vote at his polling unit at Iyaro in Benin City, the state capital, on Saturday.

YIAGA said cumulatively only about 41 per cent of polling units witnessed the arrival of INEC officials by 7:30 a.m. and only 17 per cent of polling units commenced accreditation and voting.

The rain fell heavily when Governor Obaseki arrived at the polling unit.

There have been reports of delays in voting in many polling units in the state.

The police said the suspects are PDP members.

The polling unit is one of hundreds where elections were held in Edo to elect the person to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“Vote buying is a financial crime, and the EFCC won’t allow it anywhere.”
