The Supreme Court on Friday constituted an independent special investigation team to conduct probe into allegations of use of animal fat in making Tirupati laddus.

Tirupati laddu row: The new probe team will consist of members of the CBI, state police, and FSSAI. The Supreme Court said the allegations had the potential of hurting sentiments of people worldwide.

The Supreme Court of India has ordered the formation of a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations related to the use of animal fats in laddu served at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that if there was any element of truth in the allegations, it was unacceptable.

Tirupati Laddu Row: The SIT will include two officers from the CBI, two officials from the state police, and a senior representative from the FSSAI, as per the court's instructions.

In the last hearing, a bench led by Justice BR Gavai had sought SG Tushar Mehta's assistance on whether the SIT constituted by the Andhra Pradesh government should carry on the investigation or whether an investigation by a central agency was required.
