Chhath Puja 2024: Chhath Puja is widely celebrated by 'Purvanchalis' (natives of Bihar and eastern UP) after Diwali, in which devotees, mostly women, worship the Sun god and perform the ritual of 'Arghya' standing in knee-deep water.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has announced a public holiday on November 7 for Chhath Puja, which is an important festival for the Purvanchali community.

The announcement comes shortly after Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena wrote a letter to Atishi urging her to declare November 7 a full-time holiday on the third day of Chhath.
