Nathaniel Direnzo, of Saint Marks Place, was collared Saturday morning in connection with a vicious Oct. 20 attack in broad daylight at Stuyvesant Square, near Perlman Place and East 16th Street, police said.
He was charged with second-degree strangulation, two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child, second-degree harassment and two counts of assault, police said.
The unhinged suspect began yelling at the victim and her classmates, cops said, then began to spray water at the little girl.
When the girl attempted to fight back, the suspect grabbed her hair, punched her in the face, and “wrapped his hands around her neck” and tried to strangle her, cops said.
The terrified little girl was removed to Mt. Sinai Beth Israel in stable condition, police said.
Another classmate at the park, a 15-year-old boy, was assaulted while trying to help his classmate. The boy was treated at the scene by EMS for minor injuries.
Direnzo’s arraignment was pending Saturday afternoon.
