Emergency diversion for Jet2 flight as passenger dies en route from Bulgaria to Liverpool

The flight from Burgas, Bulgaria, to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, was forced to divert to Germany after a passenger on board suffered a suspected cardiac arrest

A Jet2 flight bound for Liverpool John Lennon Airport was tragically forced to divert to Germany after a passenger suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in front of fellow passengers and crew. The airline confirmed that the flight from Burgas, Bulgaria, had to be rerouted to Cologne following the medical emergency.

The flight, LS3214, departed from Burgas at approximately 1pm local time, or 12pm BST, on Monday, September 16. An emergency was declared by the crew around two hours into the journey.

Upon making an emergency landing in Germany, emergency services immediately attended to the stricken passenger. It has now been confirmed by the airline that the passenger sadly passed away.

A spokesperson for Jet2 stated: "We can confirm that flight LS3214 from Bourgas to Liverpool John Lennon diverted to Cologne on Monday 16th September, due to a customer requiring medical assistance. Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away."

"We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the customer's family and friends at this very difficult time.", reports the Liverpool Echo.

After the tragic incident, the flight remained in Germany until approximately 2.30pm local time before resuming its journey seven hours later. The flight finally landed in Liverpool at around 10.30pm BST.
