Prince William says the Princess of Wales ”has been amazing all year”

The Prince of Wales has given an update on the health of his wife and says she has been ”amazing”.

Prince William was asked how the Princess of Wales was getting on as he prepared to present the Earthshot Prize, an event that Catherine usually attends with him.

The Princess has been treated for cancer this year and undergone major abdominal surgery. As he spoke to the BBC ahead of the awards ceremony, Prince William was asked how his wife was getting on and said ”she’s doing really well, thanks, and hopefully she’s watching tonight and, sort of, cheering me on.”

William added ”she’s been amazing this whole year and I know she’ll be really keen to see tonight be a success.’

The Earthshot Prize is taking place in South Africa this year with Prince William arriving several days ahead of the presentation to take part in a range of events highlighting environmental issues. He also had a meeting with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Earthshot began in 2021 to find solutions to tackle environmental and climate challenges around the world. Every year, five winners are chosen to receive £1 million each to develop their idea to help face global issues.

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the first two ceremonies, in London and New York, together. In 2023, the Princess of Wales missed the presentations in Singapore as she stayed at home to support Prince George as he took school exams.

Catherine announced in September that she had finished chemotherapy treatment. The Princess is continuing to prioritise her health and is taking on public engagements when she can.

Prince William will return to London after the ceremony and will join the Royal Family at Remembrance events over the weekend. The Princess of Wales is reported to be hopeful of taking part in commemorations, too.

Queen Camilla had to withdraw from the Fields of Remembrance event at Westminster Abbey after becoming ill with a chest infection.
