UK braced for snow as '700 mile-wide Arctic blast' to bring bitter four-day chill

The UK is set to be colder than Moscow this week, with a 700 mile-wide 'Arctic attack' bringing four days of bitter temperatures from Thursday and the Met Office issuing snow warnings

Britain is set to be colder than Russia's Moscow as a -5C 'Arctic attack' barrels towards England, promising the first snow of the season in what looks like an early winter preview. The lead forecaster at the Met Office has warned us that temps are expected to plummet, with a four-day freeze starting this Thursday.

Weather warnings from the Met Office are highlighting potential snow on Scottish peaks, while BBC Weather predicts that wintry showers might also dust the highlands of England. By Friday, it's going to feel pretty nippy—think daytime temperatures just making it to 10C in parts of the south and nighttime readings close to freezing down south and below zero up north, with -5C in the forecast.

Moscow's mild nights of 3C will seem balmy compared to the frosty evenings we've got coming. We're looking at a clear chill after initial rain showers earlier in the week.

Although remnants of Hurricane Kirk threaten gusty conditions and rain across southern shores midweek, it seems France and Spain will bear the brunt of this tempest.

The Mirror quotes Netweather's expert Nick Finnis saying: "The UK now looks set to dodge a bullet with Kirk appearing to track to France."

Meanwhile, BBC Weather chimes in that: "Colder air of Arctic origin will this week bring heavy rain or showers which could turn wintry over higher ground in Scotland and perhaps further south. It will be quite chilly, with frosty nights possible."
