Jermaine Jenas makes surprise return to TV - two months on from BBC sacking

by · Birmingham Live

Jermaine Jenas made his first appearance on television since being sacked by the BBC - with the former footballer pictured at Arsenal's huge match with Liverpool on Sunday.

The former Aston Villa midfielder, 41, was let go by the BBC back in August following a scandal over sending inappropriate texts to female colleagues and has kept a low profile since.

Jenas did share a video on his Instagram account last month, though, to address the situation further and, after thanking fans for their support, hinted that there were plans in place for him to return to the airwaves soon.

And it's now emerged that the former One Show host was at the Emirates Stadium working for an overseas broadcast this weekend, covering the Gunners' mammoth Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

Since hanging up his boots, Jenas seamlessly transitioned into a punditry career and was a regular on the BBC, where he made appearances on Match of the Day alongside his role with The One Show.

Jenas was even touted as a potential long-term successor to MOTD host Gary Lineker before the corporation confirmed his departure. A BBC spokesperson said in August: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up."

Jenas has also been a regular on TNT Sports' coverage of the Premier League, though he has not appeared for the broadcaster since being dismissed by the BBC.

In the video clip he shared on social media last month, Jenas alluded to having some "exciting" projects in the pipeline after reflecting on the situation.

He said: "There's some exciting stuff that I've been working on. So hopefully you'll have that to look forward to very soon. And hopefully I'll be back just talking about what I love really, which is football. I've been living the life of those Spurs fans who've been up and down and up and down.

"Forest got a great result up at Anfield and have been playing well. So I've been watching but I'm looking forward to kind of getting back and just talking about what I love most. So last of all, thank you very much and, yeah, I'll see you soon."
