Anton Du Beke had an emotional plea to doctors after his wife Hannah Summers gave birth following a long-running health battle.

The 58-year-old BBC star and marketing executive Hannah welcomed twins George and Henrietta in 2017 via IVF. Anton previously shared the couple had embarked on the course because Hannah has endometriosis, making natural pregnancy more difficult.

Anton revealed the process left Hannah “covered in bruises” following the gruelling daily injections. He says the process left him feeling “so inadequate”.

The couple eventually welcomed their children, however. And, speaking with Gyles Brandreth on the Rosebud podcast, Anton revealed he had a plea to medics after first being handed his newborn.

He said: “I remember being in the room, literally chatting away, and everyone’s going off and doing their bit and then suddenly they handed me this baby, this newly-born baby. They literally handed it to me and I put it in my shirt, I had the scrubs on.

“I had this brand new baby; it’s astonishing really. They then sort of cleared off to carry on what they’re doing and I’m like, ‘I think I need a grown up to come and help me with this, don’t leave it with me! I don’t know what I’m doing’.”

Anton and Hannah married at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey in 2017, shortly before the twins were born. On Giovanna Fletcher's Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, Anton has previously revealed the pair didn’t believe they would be able to have children.

The professional dancer admitted he "couldn't understand the universe" after watching Hannah with her nephews before opening up on their IVF journey. He said: "I knew I wanted to be with her, I saw her with her nephews. She's so kind and so caring, I just couldn't understand the universe.

"And whoever is upstairs, if anyone's upstairs, looking down and going, 'you are the most perfect person to have children, but I'm not going to let you have any children because I'm going to give you this'.

"And I'm going to say 'you're going to have this endometriosis, and you're going to suffer with this all of your life, chronically, and I'm not going to let you have any children.”

Anton says he had never heard of endometriosis before meeting Hannah. But now believes the government needs to invest more money on women's health.

Anton rose to fame as a ballroom dancer, competing in the world championships, before signing up to Strictly Come Dancing in 2004. Along with partner Erin Boag, he expected to take part in one series.

However, he has now starred in every edition of the show, first as a professional dancer, and now as a judge. It has also seen him appearing in various other TV shows, such as Hole in the Wall on the BBC.
