BBC Strictly Come Dancing star fears being axed after he's 'cancelled'

Craig Revel Horwood has admitted he could be kicked off BBC Strictly Come Dancing if he’s ever cancelled. The judge on the BBC show spoke out at the ITV Pride of Britain Awards this week, during a red carpet chat with the Mirror.

Craig is one of four judges on the show and spoke of his love of the programme. The Strictly Come Dancing judge is joined each Saturday on the panel by the likes of Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas, who serves as head judge, as well as Anton du Beke. Craig remains the longest serving member of the judging line up.

“I have no intention of quitting because it’s a fantastic Saturday job that I intend to do into my 80s, as long as I’m still compos mentis, darling!” Craig said. “And if I haven’t been cancelled before then! But what would I do if I weren’t doing it? Remain a director - I love directing musicals, I would love to direct TV and film. I have choreographed movies like Paddington 2, for instance, which I really loved.I’m not just going to retire and just weed the garden.”

Last week, Craig broke rank by questioning whether a star should be disqualified from the series. Pete Wicks and pro partner Jowita Pryzstal came under fire last week after the pair performed a lift that he branded "illegal". Craig is adamant that one foot should remain on the ground at all times when performing a rumba - and according to him, Pete had fallen flat with his cheeky technique.

Arriving at the awards ceremony this week, he defiantly argued that the pair should "of course" be disqualified. However, he added to The Sun: "That will never happen though, will it? I don’t think we’ve ever really disqualified anyone, but at least we can mark them down if they do do something illegal, so that’s sort of my point.

The notoriously strict judge, who says he was "whacked with a cane" by a dance teacher in his early days, was displeased by their performance to Oasis track 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. He told Pete in no uncertain terms during judges' feedback: "As for the lifts, that is totally illegal. There were two lifts, one foot should remain on the floor at all times."
