Liam Payne police seize 'four items' from hotel room as investigation progresses

Liam Payne cops have seized a number of items from the Wolverhampton singer's hotel room after he plunged to his death in Buenos Aires. Payne, 31, who shot to fame on ITV The X Factor, died following a fall from a third floor balcony.

The One Direction star was reportedly behaving "erratically" in the run-up to his death. Investigators reportedly seized bottle of whiskey, a lighter, a phone and a notebook found in the pop star's suite, according to Infobae.

Payne died instantly from multiple injuries including a fractured skull caused by his fall from a third floor hotel balcony. Buenos Aires emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti said medical teams were unable to save the former One Direction heart-throb when they reached the scene.

Crescenti said: “Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life. Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

Emergency services confirmed the 31-year-old pop star’s identity by checking his passport. Crescenti said Liam had fallen into the hotel’s internal patio but declined to comment on reports he may have been drunk or on drugs.

He stressed officials were still awaiting autopsy findings and urged anyone rushing to judgement “to not get ahead of ourselves.” Guests at the Casa Sur hotel told the Guardian that they heard banging and shouting for hours before Payne fell.

“I thought they were doing construction, there was so much banging, doors slamming, most of the day. It was loud, bizarre,” said Doug Jones. “Later I heard the sirens, thinking perhaps there was a fire somewhere. And then I heard a very loud scream.”

A hotel receptionist called emergency services to notify police of an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol”, according to Reuters. The hotel manager said he heard a loud noise at the back of the hotel, and when police arrived they found that a man had fallen over the balcony in his room.
