BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans says 'be kind' as he returns to studio

The star faced accusations he had made his dance partner Katya Jones 'uncomfortable' during last week's live show

Wynne Evans has urged viewers to 'be kind' as he returned to the Strictly Come Dancing studio for the first time since he sparked angry comments from fans. It comes after the 52-year-old Welsh opera star was filmed sliding his hand around his dance partner Katya Jones's waist before she promptly pushed it away during last week's live show.

The moment happened while presenter Claudia Winkleman revealed that Strictly voting lines were open for viewers to call. A second clip of the pair showing Evans - who is famous for his role in GoCompare insurance adverts - trying to high-five Jones and getting rejected was also widely shared on social media.

Wynne later said he was 'heartbroken' by suggestions he had made his partner feel 'uncomfortable'. And Katya came out in defence of her dance partner as she said it was a 'silly joke' between the pair.

As he returned to the studio for the first time since the incident, Wynne urged viewers to 'be kind'. The star, who has been open about his past mental health struggles, wrote on Instagram: "Great to be back in the strictly studio today a really joyous place here’s the legend @p_wicks01 #kindness #bekind #quickstep."

Starting out at 20/1 odds with bookmaker BetMGM, Wynne has since witnessed his chances diminish significantly, with odds tightening to just 9/2, making him the third favourite to bow out of Sunday's contest..

Wynne and Katya will dance a Quickstep to “Mr Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra as they return to the Strictly dance floor tonight.

Strictly Come Dancing airs at 6.25pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer tonight.
