Sky News has come under fire for remarks made about Liam Payne's young son, Bear. The One Direction singer, from Wolverhampton, tragically passed away yesterday at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Fans and friends have been paying tribute to the Strip That Down singer, expressing their heartbreak that Bear, whom Payne had with his ex-partner Cheryl, will now grow up without his father. A Sky News presenter referenced seven-year-old Bear while covering the breaking news last night, but her comments were labelled as 'disgusting'.

She stated: "I remember when Bear was born and we were laughing at the name because it's quite funny." Viewers took to social media to express their outrage, with one user @GDave815 writing: "What a strange thing for her to bring up..."

User @cameronclark_98 added: "Sky news are turning into gbeebies... what a disgusting thing to say." @GJ69 added: "Jesus, this news just broke and she decided to randomly make fun of his kids name. That kid, stupid name or not just lost their dad ffs."

Liam and and X Factor judge Cheryl, 41, welcomed Bear in March 2017, a year after they began dating. The pair split up a year later and have both discussed co-parenting in recent years.

In 2022, Payne revealed that he sees his son two to three times a week. In a heart-wrenching revelation, he spoke about his son Bear 'needing his dad in his life' and how the young lad views him 'like a superhero'.

He said: "And I make sure when I see him, he has 100 percent of my time. I make sure that I'm not on my phone or messing around elsewhere. So, I like to give him those moments and it's important, he needs that in his life, he needs his dad in his life, and I'm happy he looks at me like a superhero, and I'm hoping to keep it that way."
