BBC Weather has incorrectly forecast 'hurricane force winds' in Birmingham and the rest of the UK today - whilst also predicting record-breaking temperatures of 404C. The broadcaster said its weather app and website had experienced a "data fault issue", causing the error.

The mistake saw 13,508mph wind speeds predicted in London while unliveable temperatures of 404C were set to reach Nottingham overnight. Lead BBC weather presenter and meteorologist Simon King said: "Don’t be alarmed by some of our data this morning.

"Be assured there won’t be 14408mph winds, hurricane force winds or overnight temperatures of 404C. It is being looked at and hopefully sorted ASAP."

While the BBC website still showed 'hurricane force winds' in Birmingham today, the full forecast underneath read slightly different. It said: "In the afternoon, there will be sunny spells, some patchy cloud, and a few isolated showers.

"This evening, any showers will clear, leaving a dry, clear and calm night. Turning rather chilly under the clear and calm conditions." The weather prediction for tomorrow read: "A chilly but bright start tomorrow with plenty of sunshine. In the afternoon, a few patches of cloud will develop but it will remain dry with sunny spells for most."
