Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke aims dig at BBC bosses after show 'snub'

Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke has claimed that he recently received a 'snub' from BBC bosses over a new TV show.

Opening up to Virgin Radio's Chris Evans show, the Strictly judge revealed that he is starting to doubt a promise made to him by BBC bosses four years ago.

Their conversation started, as earlier in the show, the pair were talking about the idea that in American showbizness, people will sometimes not give a straight 'no' to a question, when it comes to something like commissioning a new TV series or film.

Rupert Everett who recently appeared on the show had been talking to Chris about the phenomenon, that he has written about in his newly released book titled 'The American No'.

And, Anton claimed that he has experienced a similar situation with his bosses at the BBC, who said they once offered him the chance to do his own programme: "There's a strange familiarity in the BBC 'no' I've found. I'm convinced I'm going to do a show that I spoke about four years ago, because they haven't said we won't be doing it. So, I'm still keeping space in the diary for it."

As the show progressed, Chris couldn't help but compliment Anton on the ever growing popularity of Strictly as he said 'do you get how special it is?', to which the judge replied: "I get as excited about Saturday mornings as much now as I did 20 years ago. I've never felt any differently about it and I always said it when I was dancing with my partners, I never minded who I got as long as long as they tried their best, that's all I wanted."

He continued: "My, biggest disappointment, was being voted off, even if it was inevitable that I was going to get voted off. I never had a moment were I went 'it'll be better if we get voted off now or I've had enough of this lets get voted off."

Appearing on the very first episode of the show in 2004 alongside singer Lesley Garrett, he quickly established himself as a fan favourite. And, after over two and a half decades dancing on the programme he replaced Bruno Tonioli as a judge in September 2021.
