Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has been open about his struggle with severe depression after his marriage broke down. Known for his cheerful persona in the Go Compare adverts, the fame from the commercials brought unwanted attention from trolls and comfort eating saw him reach a weight of 23.6 stone.

The Welsh opera singer revealed how bad his mental health struggle got, saying: "I was doing a daily radio show where the feel of it is upbeat and keeping people in a good mood and cheering up the nation. The strapline of my show is, 'cheering Wales up by one o'clock,' but I was going through the worst depression, clinical depression... I couldn't see a way out; I couldn't see a way of ever being happy again."

Wynne battled with anxiety, experiencing 'stage fright', but was determined to improve. After consulting a psychiatrist and starting on anti-depressants, the celebrity embraced a health-conscious lifestyle, which led to an impressive loss of 5.5 stones in just a few months.

"I'm much kinder, much more patient, I try and live every day to the fullest and really enjoy myself," Wynne shared. "I started to rebuild my life and that's where I am today - I do a show every day, I've got my own TV series in Wales, and it's great. If I could freeze life and keep it going like it is now, I would do that."

Speaking about his weight loss, he added: "If you're happy being a bigger person, that's great, that's fantastic, but for me, it has just made me feel so much better. I feel alive again, and I feel like I can do anything now."

Wynne recently came under criticism from Strictly viewers after his dance partner Katya Jones was seen moving his hand away from her waist during a live show. They later insisted it had all been a 'silly joke' between the pair.
