Met Office issues UK weather forecast amid hurricane fears

Will Hurricane Milton or Kirk hit the UK?

by · Birmingham Live

The Met Office has promised a "fine day for all" today with the UK set to see "plenty of sunny spells" - quashing immediate fears of hurricane winds. The weather service said it had “increasing confidence” that Hurricane Kirk would track to the very south of the UK - bringing heavy rains and strong winds to northern France.

Although north and south shifts remain possible, the threat of significant impacts to the UK from the ex-hurricane are now much reduced, it added. Hurricane Milton, currently causing havoc in Florida, was excepted to weaken to a tropical storm once over the open waters of the Atlantic.

The Met Office previously issued a yellow warning on Monday, October 7. It warned that thunderstorms and heavy rain could cause travel disruption across parts of southern England and Wales.

Forecasters said further weather warnings were possible but added that the risk of flooding should reduce. The Met Office's forecast for UK weather today reads: "Cloud and patchy rain clearing southern counties of England and Wales this morning. Then a fine day for all, with plenty of sunny spells.

"A few showers possible, mainly towards the north and east. Feeling colder than recent days. Showers becoming more frequent across northwest Scotland through the evening and into the early hours. Largely dry elsewhere, with lengthy clear spells. A patchy frost forming as winds fall light."

The weather service's forecast for tomorrow reads: "After a chilly start, most will have another fine day with plenty of sunshine. The risk of some showery rain developing at times across northern and western parts of Scotland."
