UK tourists have taken defiant action over Majorca and Tenerife protests - and dealt some humiliation to demonstrators. European Union holiday hotspot residents have suffered a brutal defeat at the hands of UK holidaymakers who've "ignored" their demands.

After protests and demonstrations swept the holiday islands, bookings have surged in regions including Majorca, Ibiza and Majorca. UK tourists have chosen Spain for a getaway in a late decision, according to data from TravelgateX, a booking platform.

According to the data, there was a 27 per cent increase in holiday bookings to the Balearic Islands compared to the same period in 2023. TravelgateX data showed that the Balearic Islands ranked sixth in terms of overall Spanish bookings from October 7 to October 13.

Around 20 per cent of all bookings by Brits to Spain were made in the last 90 days. Between 15 and 30 days before travel, 16 per cent of bookings were made, with places like Catalonia seeing a staggering 20 per cent increase in bookings.

Andalusia saw a 16 per cent hike, while the Canary Islands saw an uptick of 15 per cent. Madrid saw 13 per cent and Valencia experienced a rise of 10 per cent. 49.5 per cent were made by couples, with two to five-night getaways being the most popular.

TravelgateX revealed 54 per cent were made by Spaniards, with Brits accounting for 18 per cent. The central government delegate in the Balearics, Alfonso Rodríguez, has spoken out over the demonstrations after unrest among locals.

“The situation we saw in Caló des Moro fits in with some of the complaints that are made to establish certain limits and to avoid overcrowding and with the policy of this Government Delegation” he commented earlier this summer.

“With prior communication to this government delegation, which has the will to guarantee the right to demonstrate and which also shares many of the demands, all this would not have happened,” he concluded.
