Tesco shoppers slam new policy at stores which is 'absolutely not OK'

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one customer posted a sign from her local Tesco which shows shoppers can now only park in the Tesco car park for one hour between the hours of 8pm and midnight.

Tesco shoppers are fuming over a "new policy" at stores which they say "sucks". Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one customer posted a sign from her local Tesco which shows shoppers can now only park in the Tesco car park for one hour between the hours of 8pm and midnight.

Twitter user Anna fumed: “Hey @Tesco I do my shopping at night so I can wander round without my kids and buy nice things that I can hide and eat by myself. It’s a couple of hours to myself once a week. This new policy sucks.”

She added: “I’m aware the store is shut 12-6am, I’m talking about when I like to go at 9pm for a couple of hours when it’s nice and quiet and I can shop in peace. Literally can’t believe I’m having to justify myself to some of you absolute ****ends.“

She also explained: “I know to a lot of people this probably seems petty and not a big deal, but to anyone who either has kids or works weird hours and has to shop in the evening, or for anyone neurodivergent it’s absolutely not okay.”

Another said: "If you go into the store there will be a terminal at the customer service desk where you can input your reg and it puts your reg in the anpr system to avoid charges for a set amount of time. It’s used for contractors working at the store or if you have been shopping longer."

Another fumed: "It's their C&C that winds me up, they assume everyone doing it has a car. When my son was a baby I did a C&C to grab while I was out in town doing other things. Stood in pissing rain packing bags. Asda does C&C inside because they know not everyone has a car."

Another raged: "I have a disability. For many years because I have a disability and typically because I’ve also mostly worked at night, I have chosen to shop beyween 10pm and 2am. Fewer people to obstruct wheelchairs or create challenges for people with PTSD. This makes a huge difference to my mobility and ACCESSIBILITY.

"You know that section in the EA2010. Did you know it can take as long as 15 minutes to transfer in to a wheelchair and another to transfer from a wheelchair? So apart from the fact that your policy is to refuse help to a dying dog in your car park, it looks like you kind of have the same attitude to disabled people. Or like everyone else don’t you believe that the disabled go out at night? Is this a deliberate attempt to keep the disabled out of your stores? Do you actually think about compliance before you make these decisions."
